   It’s the translation: “mujeres” = “women.” It’s named after a small Mayan temple to the goddess Ixchel that used to stand on the southern tip of the island, and women made fertility pilgrimages there. It was destroyed in a recent hurricane.

   I lived in Cancun for perhaps 6 years. I would take the ferry from Punta Sam. I recall a place on the south end and the owner had a parrot. This bird would say???

   I made my second trip there with my kids few weeks ago, stayed in Isla Mujeres for 3 nights, my little baby thinks the Cancun sea is a big swimming pool, it shows how clear it is.

   This place is much better then Maldives, which you confine to one little island doing nothing. Cancun is great for whole family. The Xelha and one more forgot the name, the kids love the swim with the dolphins.

   Also the maya pyramid, I will go back for my third time.
